Description
Prespa Region is located on the South-East of the Balkan Peninsula and together with Ohrid Region is part of the Green Belt of Europe, the former ‘Iron Curtain’ which separated East and West Europe. Prespa National Park is the biggest park in terms of the surface in Albania. Its watershed is shared between three countries Albania, North Macedonia and Greece and two of the most important lakes in the region are located in it the, Greater Prespa and Lesser Prespa lake. In 2014 the area of Lake Ohrid and Lake Prespa, on North Macedonia and Albania was declared a biosphere reserve due to its high geomorphological, biodiversity and cultural values. Prespa region carries extraordinary values of cultural and natural heritage. It has been considered as an early prehistoric settlement region rich with archaeological sites from different civilizations and times. In addition to history, this region bears high biodiversity values as there is a notable number of endemic species which can be found only in the region. You can explore the park and enjoy the wonderful nature by following the hiking trails marked by the Prespe Park Administration.
